Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Health Recognizes Essakane

Mar 25, 2026

On February 16, 2026, Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Health officially presented Essakane with a certificate of recognition in acknowledgment of the mine’s long-standing support for community initiatives across the country.

“This distinction reflects Essakane’s sustained commitment for more than 15 years in Burkina Faso, and in particular our contribution to the centenary of the Regional Hospital Centre (RHC) of Dori, a cornerstone of healthcare in the Sahel region,” said Tidiane Barry, General Manager of Essakane.

In 2025, Essakane was the largest contributor to the RHC centenary fundraising gala, donating 130 million CFAF (approximately CAD $325,000 at the time). The contribution supported hospital renovation efforts as well as activities marking the institution’s 100th anniversary.

Beyond this contribution, the mine supports a broad range of health-related initiatives, including a renewed partnership with Burkina Faso’s National Blood Transfusion Centre, mosquito-net distribution campaigns to help combat malaria, annual Health, Safety & Environment Days, programs addressing malnutrition, and initiatives aimed at improving access to clean drinking water in water-scarce regions. In 2025, this community support amounted to more than US$2 million in voluntary investments in the local community, mainly in support of health and education.

Congratulations to the Essakane teams! This recognition underscores IAMGOLD’s ongoing commitment to supporting the health and well-being of communities in the Sahel region.
