IAMGOLD is proud to announce the winners of our two $5,000scholarships through the Young Mining Professionals (YMP) Scholarship Fund: Edwin Qi is the recipient of the Equity & Opportunity Scholarship and Suha Abdalla is the recipient of the Women in Mining Scholarship.

Meet the 2025 Recipients

Edwin Qi – Equity & Opportunity Scholarship
Edwin, an Engineering Science student at the University of Toronto, graduated high school with a 98.3% average and founded EngineerXperience, a robotics club with 120+ memberswhich he continues to lead to this day. Passionate about sustainable mining technologies, Edwin plans to integrate automation and AI to improve safety and reduce environmental impact.
Suha Abdalla – Women in Mining Scholarship
Suha, originally from Sudan, holds a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering and is currentlyenrolled in Northern College’s Mining Engineering Technician program. With a strong academic record and volunteer work supporting newcomers, Suha champions gender diversity and sustainable mining practices.
The YMP Scholarship Fund, established by the Young Mining Professionals Toronto group, supports students pursuing careers in mining and related fields. In 2024, the fund awarded over $200,000 to students across Canada. IAMGOLD contributes annually by sponsoring two distinct scholarships:
