Earlier in March, our Essakane Mine in Burkina Faso
hosted its second annual cycling Grand Prix, titled "The Pedal of
Resilience and Peace,” in Ouagadougou.

With the event taking place around International Women’s
Day, this year’s theme was "Honouring Women in Mining, a Symbol of
Resilience,” to highlight and celebrate women in the mining industry. To commemorate
the day, women employees at Essakane SA completed a four-kilometre cycling race
to recognize women in Burkina for their commitment, resilience and many
contributions to the socio-economic development of the country.

Vice President, West Africa and General Manager, Essakane
SA Tidiane Barry, gave the green light for the start of the race and the
cyclists were off along Boulevard Thomas Sankara to complete their course.
The women's peloton covered 51 km while the men's
peloton did a 121.8-kilometre loop. This year, 116 cyclists took part in the
race. Adèle Guissou of team A.S. Bessel dominated the women’s race, while
Rachid Bouda of team AJCK triumphed in the men's category.

While the “Pedal of Resilience and Peace” aims to promote
learning and excellence to cyclists, for many, the event is much more than just
a cycling competition. It represents a symbol of resilience, peace and unity,
bringing together athletes and spectators in the spirit of the sport.
The event is also a testament to IAMGOLD Essakane SA’s
commitment to community development and sport promotion in its host communities
in Burkina Faso.
“It was an honour to again participate in the ‘Pedal
of Resilience and Peace,’” Tidiane said of the event. “We aim to contribute
tangible benefits to our host communities, and sporting events like this have a
positive impact in our community. Kudos to all the athletes and participants!”
