Our Essakane Mine in Burkina Faso hosted its annual Health, Safety & Environment Days last month at both our mine site in northeastern Burkina as well as at our office in Ouagadougou. Employees, community members and government partners gathered for three days of programming focused on fostering a culture of health and safety at work and in our communities.
Highlighted by this year’s theme "Leadership in Health, Safety and Environment: Inspiring by Example,” Essakane SA continues to be a leader in promoting health, safety and environmental responsibility in our operations, and in local communities. Our employees and local partners led programming that spanned a number of topics, including sessions on workplace safety, road safety and environmental protection as well as a blood donation drive and a campaign on critical illness screenings.
“As a major private employer in Burkina Faso, it is important for us to build strong ties with our communities and lead by example in all aspects of our business, with health and safety being an integral part of this,” Tidiane Barry, Vice President, West Africa and General Manager, Essakane said. “For us, health and safety is more than a goal, it’s a culture that we embed in everything that we do: in relation to our employees, in relation to our host communities and in relation to the environment.”
We’re proud to see our team members involved and committed to creating a culture of Zero Harm® in every aspect of our business.
