As mining operations expand and become more complex with the official opening of Côté Gold, health and safety remain our top priority. To reinforce this commitment, the Côté leadership has established an emergency response team to maintain safety measures and promptly address any potential emergencies on the site.

Since April, we have transitioned from an outsourced provider to our own Côté Gold Emergency Response Team (ERT). This squad of 38 volunteers and two full-time specialists work on rotation to ensure 24/7 safety response capability at the mine. The team comprises highly trained individuals with diverse backgrounds who are ready to respond to all site emergencies, including medical injuries, building and equipment fires, confined space rescue, gas detection, water rescue, forestry fire and much more.

“Equipped with a full suite of emergency response equipment and undergoing regular training exercises, our goal is to not only effectively respond to a variety of emergencies but to minimize the response time, reducing the impact on the staff, the environment and operations as a whole,” says Emanuel Cabral, Emergency Response Specialist.

In addition to emergency responses, our ERT is also focused on proactively identifying hazards to mitigate potential risks. This approach is a testament to IAMGOLD’s commitment to upholding the highest safety standards and our Zero Harm® vision.
