IAMGOLD Publishes Sustainability and Tailings Management Reports

May 24, 2024

At IAMGOLD, we are committed to maintaining our culture of accountable mining through high standards of environmental, social and governance practices and our commitment to our Zero Harm® vision. This year, as part of our sustainability reporting alongside our annual Sustainability Report, we published our inaugural Tailings Management Report.

This was a big team effort involving various functions and team members at Site and Corporate.

2023 Sustainability Report

This year's report is themed "Striving for Sustainability Excellence". Our report focuses on our achievements and challenges related to our material topics (i.e. Environmental, social and governance (ESG) topics that matter the most to our stakeholders and our business).

A snapshot of our performance highlights is shown below:

Why a Tailings Management Report? Tailings management is a vital aspect of responsible and safe mining operations. IAMGOLD does a significant amount of work to manage our tailings-related risk at each stage of the mining lifecycle. To respond to increasing levels of awareness and interest from our stakeholders, to keep pace with our peers, and to demonstrate our values of accountability and transparency, we have provided more details on the approach to tailings in our standalone Tailings Management Report.

This report is guided by indicators from the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board and the Global Tailings Portal and provides comprehensive insights into our tailings-related governance, management systems, storage facilities, and best practices. It highlights our approach to tailings management, which takes a life-of-mine view encompassing planning, design, construction, operations, closure and post-closure to prevent, mitigate and minimize risks.
