Our Essakane mine recently co-organized the first edition of the “Pedal of Resilience and Peace” competition in Burkina Faso, chaired by the Ministry of Sports, Youth and Leisure and sponsored by the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries.
Tidiane Barry, Essakane’s General Manager, gave the green light for the start of the race, which had 78 male cyclists and 26 female competitors. The course takes cyclists from downtown Ouagadougou to the neighbouring town of Ziniaré. The grand prix is now part of the country’s official calendar of cycling races.

“It was an honour to participate in the inaugural edition of the ‘Pedal of resilience and peace’ tournament and we are proud to support the creation of another sports event that will certainly have a positive impact in our community,” said Tidiane Barry.
The initiative is a partnership between the Animation, Sport, Events and Marketing Services (ASEM) agency, the Burkinabè Cycling Federation and IAMGOLD Essakane.
This partnership is an integral part of IAMGOLD’s comprehensive community development program, which aims to contribute tangible benefits to our host communities by fostering economic growth, improving access to health and education, and investing in sports and cultural projects.
