Our Essakane mine in Burkina Faso has recently renewed its partnership with the country’s National Blood Transfusion Centre (CNTS) for another three years. As part of the new agreement, our team has committed to increase the number of blood drives it will host at the mine from two to four a year.
In addition to holding these four annual campaigns, Essakane SA’s support will help the CNTS purchase essential blood transfusion products, such as reagents and other consumables, and operationalize its regional blood transfusion centre in the nearby municipality of Dori.
In a formal ceremony held at Essakane SA; headquarters, Mr. Désiré Nezien, CNTS’s General Manager, thanked the Essakane mine for “this privileged partnership,” which he hoped will be “an example to follow for other mining companies and the private sector in general.” Mr. Tidiane Barry, Essakane SA’s General Manager, took this opportunity to underline “the company’s commitment to social reasonability issues and the unwavering commitment of Essakane employees to blood donation activities.”

About our partnership with CNTS: Since 2018 Essakane has played a key role promoting blood donation by organizing voluntary blood drives among employees, highlighting the value of blood donation with local communities and providing key materials and equipment to the CNTS. These activities are part of Essakane SA’s social responsibility program.
Earlier this summer, the Essakane SA team was also honoured at a World Blood Donor Day event for its active role promoting and participating in blood donation activities in Burkina Faso. A total of 1,000 blood bags have been collected to date.
