Our Essakane mine in Burkina Faso recently surpassed a historic health and safety achievement of 5 million hours worked without any recordable safety incidents; an exceptional record and a testament to the team’s unwavering dedication to Zero Harm®!
After reaching this milestone back in June of this year, the team at Essakane celebrated and was presented with a plaque, with congratulations from Renaud Adams, our President and CEO. Tidiane Barry, General Manager, and Denis Doucet, Assistant General Manager, along with Essakane team members, are pictured accepting the plaque for their achievement. Mr. Barry relayed the following words of encouragement to our Essakane team:
“I congratulate the Essakane Team for achieving this historic performance of 5 million hours worked without any recordable safety incident. This is an impressive achievement exemplifying our team’s dedication to reaching the highest possible health and safety standards.”
Tidiane Barry, General Manager, Essakane Mine, IAMGOLD
This noteworthy accomplishment resulted in the site achieving “Triple Zero” over the 5 million hours worked. Achieving this milestone means that Essakane did not have any Medical Treatment, Restricted Work or Lost Time injuries.
About IAMGOLD’s Zero Harm Vision
Our Zero Harm vision guides all operations and activities at IAMGOLD. As an integral part of this vision, we continually strive to reach the highest standards in human health and safety. Of course, policies would only remain policies if it weren’t for the daily dedication and active participation of those at the site level who are tasked to translate our standards into action.
The Essakane team’s performance exemplifies our site teams’ dedication to our high standards of operating safely. To this end, Bruno Lemelin, our Chief Operating Officer, had the following remarks:
“Health and safety are part of our core values and at the heart of our Zero Harm® vision. Essakane’s recent achievement of reaching 5 million hours of zero recordable incidents is a great demonstration of this. Congratulations to the Essakane Team for their continued focus and commitment to making our operations and our company even safer.”
