Supporting our host communities is an integral part of what we do at IAMGOLD. Each of our sites has community development initiatives in place, which are geared specifically towards supporting students in the community as well as the next generation of mining professionals and leaders.

Welcoming Summer Interns

Once again this year, like every summer, our Westwood mine is welcoming about 20 interns for the season. Hailing from different regions in Quebec and a variety of fields of study, these interns will live a once-in-a-lifetime experience, which includes an in-depth visit to all the mine facilities. Being an intern at Westwood is an opportunity for these students to further their understanding of the mining industry and for our Westwood staff to share their love and passion for what they do.

Supporting College Students

Earlier this year, our Westwood mine granted a total of five grants (three of 1,000$ and one of 2,000$) to CÉGEP students (the equivalent of college students in the rest of Canada). These grants are supporting four students from the local college (CÉGEP de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue). These students are enrolled in mining studies but also in health care, an industry also in need of well-trained manpower.

Supporting University Students

Supporting the next generation of mining professionals and leaders is also an important aspect of what we do at IAMGOLD. Earlier this year, a total of five $1,000 bursaries were given to students from Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT). Some of these students are enrolled in mining studies and intend to pursue a career in mining.
