IAMGOLD Energy Projects Selected for Federal Innovation Funding

IAMGOLD is pleased to announce that two projects at the Westwood mine in Quebec have been selected for funding through Natural Resources Canada's Energy Innovation Program. This funding supports IAMGOLD's ongoing efforts to advance our energy transition objectives: evaluating innovative energy technologies and improving energy efficiency while reducing costs and maintaining operational performance. 

Supporting innovation at Westwood 
The selected projects focus on two areas with the potential to reduce energy use and recover wasted energy in mining operations: 

 • Electric Haul Truck Demonstration 
Westwood has been awarded $2.4 million to support the demonstration of electric haul trucks and the installation of charging infrastructure.  

The goal of the project is to evaluate whether electric haul trucks could help reduce associated greenhouse gas emissions in certain mining applications. The study will also examine practical considerations such as charging requirements, equipment performance, and how electric vehicles could be integrated into existing mine operations. The results will help inform future decisions about the potential role of electric mining equipment at Westwood and across IAMGOLD. 

 • Mine Ventilation Energy Recovery 
Westwood has also received $2,2M for a mine ventilation energy recovery project. The goal of the project is to evaluate technologies that can capture and reuse heat from underground ventilation systems.  

The initiative will assess whether recovering this energy could reduce natural gas consumption and heating costs associated with mine ventilation. The findings will help determine the feasibility and potential benefits of energy recovery systems in an operating mine environment. 

Supporting IAMGOLD's decarbonization objectives 
Together, these projects are part of a broader effort to evaluate innovative technologies that could support IAMGOLD's decarbonization objectives. The funding will help advance these efforts by providing an opportunity to assess emerging technologies and better understand the solutions that may contribute to more responsible mining practices while maintaining operational performance and managing costs.
