ANDES AND BRAZIL

IAMGOLD has an Exploration Office in Belo Horizonte, Brazil with a staff of approximately 30 people.

IAMGOLD also has an Exploration Office in Lima, Peru and has a staff of approximately 25 people. 

Active generative programs are an essential part of IAMGOLD’s exploration strategy for the Andes region of Peru and surrounding areas. Generative programs in 2008 resulted in the acquisition of approximately 45,000 hectares covering four new greenfields projects.

In Brazil, IAMGOLD holds more than 400,000 hectares covering historic gold workings in Minas Gerais state. Field crews have traced the historic workings for more than 16 kilometres. A significant drilling program in 2008 has led to additional drilling plans for 2009. Elsewhere in Brazil, we continue to build our land positions in favorable districts, and monitor the activities on our three joint ventures. Our exploration team is also evaluating new opportunities in neighboring countries and monitors several active joint ventures in Argentina.
