IAMGOLD’s Response to COVID-19

Last updated on March 23, 2020

The coronavirus ("COVID-19") has impacted the world in unprecedented ways. In these extraordinary times, IAMGOLD is taking critical steps in response. Please keep reading for important updates.

In February, IAMGOLD activated our cross-functional Corporate Crisis Committee (“CCC”), which holds daily meetings on activities, strategy and new developments. The CCC draws on input and responds to requests and approvals from two additional crisis response teams – site operations, and (combined) operations (including projects and exploration).  The overall response team draws on a broad range of expertise, including operations, human resources, health and safety, corporate affairs, communications, finance, information technology, and legal.

Zero Harm© and Safety Remain the Absolute Core of IAMGOLD Values

Zero Harm© is our commitment to continually strive to reach the highest standards in human health, minimize our impact on the environment, and work co-operatively with our host communities.

To-date, IAMGOLD has not recorded any COVID-19 cases at our sites. However, as a precautionary measure to ensure the health and safety of our employees, we have instituted an essential-employees only protocol and are in the process of moving non-essential employees to work-from-home. These protocols apply to our contractors as well. At each of our operating sites, we have medical facilities and health care workers, who are conducting screenings and assessments and will quarantine employees if and when needed.

The week of March 23rd, Essakane and Rosebel are moving to self-confinement, in order to better protect our employees and communities, and ensure the continuity of our operation.

On March 24, 2020, we announced that we are placing the Westwood Gold Mine on care and maintenance effective one minute after midnight March 25 and until April 13, 2020. Minimal staff will be in place during this period, and will follow strict hygiene and screening protocols, in addition to social distancing. Westwood is well-positioned to quickly and safely ramp-up mining operations at the appropriate time.

Following the confirmation of one case of COVID-19 at our Toronto corporate office, we closed, cleaned and disinfected the office. Effective March 24, 2020 at midnight, the Toronto office is closed for at least two weeks per the Ontario directive, with the work-from-home protocol already in effect. We are also closing the Longueuil office effective one minute after midnight on March 25, 2020 and until April 13, 2020 per the Quebec directive, with the work-from-home protocol already in effect.

Activities at the Côté Gold Project ("Côté") in Ontario are not impacted by the Ontario directive as mining, exploration and development have been deemed "essential" activities in the province. However, we are proactively reducing activities at the site to ensure integrity of equipment and protection of personnel. The Company continues to be prudent in managing capital expenditures with derisking activities.

In addition to the above, all non-essential travel has been cancelled.

We are rolling out support systems for physical and mental health support to our employees at each site and office including a hotline they can call from their location for further support. We are also providing guidance on working ergonomically from home, creating a safe home environment and IT tips including cyber security.

Communication is key to connecting and informing our people. To this end, we have instituted a weekly CEO letter to employees, regular updates on new developments and resources, an internal platform containing resources and regular site communications.

Working Together to Ensure Best Practices

IAMGOLD is in regular contact with peers, industry groups including regional workgroups and the Mining Association of Canada, health authorities, local and state governments. We are following the World Health Organization guidelines, and will follow local directives with respect to COVID-19 response.

We have a system in place to navigate crises and are prepared to respond to shifting challenges through scenario and contingency planning. This includes potential impacts to people, operations, supply chain, sales and the gold market.

IAMGOLD has a global business, with existing technology in place to enable communication across our sites. We are also fortunate to have a strong balance sheet and do not require external capital for our business continuity. Further, we are cognizant of market conditions and remain prudent in our spending.

Our employees have adapted well, are resilient and remain our source of strength in these difficult times. We will continue to work together through this crisis to emerge even stronger.

Letter to All Employees from Our President & CEO, Gord Stothart, Friday March 20, 2020

I am reaching out to you to express my support and gratitude for all the initiatives you are taking during these uncertain and unprecedented times to limit the exposure of our employees to COVID-19, minimize the risk to our communities and keep our operations running.

I particularly commend all of you at our operating and exploration sites, especially as many of you are working remotely on extended rotations away from your families. Your leadership and commitment to limiting and containing further transmission of COVID-19 make me very proud.

As global conditions evolve rapidly, the Executive Leadership Team and I will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that we respond appropriately. We will continue to communicate with you regularly.

In these extraordinary times, it’s natural to feel anxiety about the future. I want to reassure you that despite the uncertainty caused by COVID-19, IAMGOLD is resilient, financially healthy and able to weather this storm. It’s especially important for us to stay focused on what we can control: ensuring that we support each other (our colleagues and families, our own communities and others) while diligently implementing the health & safety measures we are enacting. By doing this rigorously and consistently, we have the power to reduce the impact of COVID-19 and flatten the curve of infection rates.

United as a team, I know that we have the talent, determination and strength to successfully navigate this global crisis. Thank you for all that you are doing and please stay safe and healthy.
